Death has been announced of veteran actor and producer of Theatre of the Air at Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Augustine Lubani.

Lubani’s nephew Sannet confirmed of the death in an interview with Daily Times, saying the actor died on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

According to Sannet, late Lubani will be laid to rest today at Area 3 in Machinjri, Blantyre.

Lubani was born on July 10, 1968 and hailed from Luwatala Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba.

Lubani started acting in 1975 when he was a student at Chichiri Secondary School. Since then, he had acted in over 40 plays and had also written several plays as well as producing them.

His main play was titled The Preacher, a Biblical story concentrating on King Solomon’s advice to the young generation.

Lubani is survived by a wife and four children.
