Seven people confirmed died while several others have sustained injuries after a bus which was travelling from Blantyre to Lilongwe overturned at Mlangeni in Ntcheu along the M1 Road at the dawn hours of August 11.

According to Ntcheu police spokesperson, Gift Matewere, the bus belonging to Premier Bus Services which had over 60 people on board.

Matewere said that a bus driver lost control and swerved to a nearside verge.

“It is believed that the driver was sleeping while driving due to fatigue and failed to negotiate a corner.

“The driver Richard Nyirenda (40) h of Katolola village T/A Kyungu in Karonga will be charged with the offence of causing death by dangerous driving contrary to section 121 of Road Traffic Act,” Matewere disclosed.

Apart from seven who have met their fate, two have sustained serious injuries, several other people with internal injuries have been referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe and several others are admitted at Ntcheu

The bus has damaged beyond repair.
