The High Court in Lilongwe on Monday dismissed a case in which some Malawi Congress Party (MCP), district chairmen want the party to call for an emergency convention to regularize changes to the party’s National Executive Committee made last year.
The squabbles in MCP started when President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera reshuffled the Party’s National Executive committee (NEC) on August 27th 2015, demoting Salima Central Member of Parliament Felix Jumbe.
The development forced some district Chairmen flanked by Jumbe to call for emergency convention, accusing Chakwera of being undemocratic.
Earlier, the disgruntled MCP’s supporters obtained a court order for the Party to reconvene an emergency convention with 90 days or revert to previous positions but the order was successfully challenged.
Meanwhile MCP’s top officials have blamed DPP for having a hand in the squabbles locking the Party.
