Government has congratulated Mr. Bonnex Julius Binali from the Blantyre Newspapers Limited, a member of the Times Group, for scooping one of the 2016 SADC Media Awards.
The media awards have been conferred this morning by the SADC Chairperson, the President of the Republic of Botswana His Excellency Dr. Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama during the opening of the Heads of State and Government SADC summit in the Swaziland Capital, Mbabane.
Julius Binali won in the water Photography Category with an entry depicting children paddling a canoe on Lake Malawi.
“This is a proud moment for Malawi bearing in mind that out of the 15 Countries in the SADC Region Malawi was among four countries that managed to get an award showcasing excellence in journalism in the SADC Region. The other countries represented among the winners were Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia.
“It is the expectation of the State President that these awards will encourage Mr. Binali and the media in general to achieve more success in future endearvours and will also inspire all of us to work harder in all our efforts to put Malawi on the international map for good reasons as Mr. Binali has done,” reads in part the statement from Ministry of Information Patricia Kaliati.
She added: “With hard work, integrity and patriotism, we are assured of achieving anything for ourselves and for our nation.”
