A 30-year old Polytechnic student is battling for his life at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in the commercial capital Blantyre after being hacked by thugs while on duty as a guard.
According to Nation Newspaper dated September 4 2016, the paper reported that John Chione was attacked on Thursday at Mandala residential area in Blantyre.
Chione made it to the University of Malawi after passing his Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations with 18 points.
But he went to college at a time when government had started to provide fees to only a lucky few and he was not among them. Since his parents are poor, Chione failed to mobilise enough funds for fees which at the time was K250,000.
Chione was withdrawn from College and he later Omega Security Company where he was working as a security guard and he was earning K21,000 per month.
According to the paper, Chione sustained serious injuries in the arms as he was trying to shield his head from the thugs.
Meanwhile Chione is yet to raise enough money for his fees, which is now at K400,000 following a recent hike by the government.
