Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has threatened to call for a national wide strike for both Primary and Secondary school teachers starting from September 12 2016 due to long outstanding teachers’ grievances which remain unresolved.

This has been disclosed in a letter addressed to Ministry of Education Science and Technology co-signed by TUM President Chauluka Muwake and his general secretary Denis Kalekeni.

According to the letter, TUM has given Ministry of Education September 12 2016 as the deadline to resolve the outstanding issues raised by teachers or face national wide strike.

TUM wants government to pay arrears of teachers amounting to MK103 million and to promote some teachers country wide.
