Minister of Civic Education, Culture and Community Development Patricia Kaliati has denied media reports that she is in bad blood with Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa over positions in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The development comes barely a week after President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika reshuffled his Cabinet which saw Kaliati being fired from Ministry of Information.
According to the audio that FaceofMalawi have in possession, unknown person believed to be one of the DPP top officials is heard warning Kaliati that Nankhumwa is after her position in the Party.
Kaliati sympathizer is heard in the conversation telling her that Nankhumwa is in the forefront feeding Mutharika with bad stories about her so that she can be sacked.
The official further says that other Ministers are not happy with Kaliati’s action of responding to every issue without consulting responsible Ministries.
“Madam, there is serious infighting in government, not just among juniors but even at cabinet level….. And that is why the President is being exposed.
“Even the issue of K577 billion, they are targeting you. They want to pull you down, this is from government reliable sources. If you want to survive, don’t be all over the place, visiting other ministries” said Kaliati’s sympathizer.
When asked to comment on the matter, Kaliati said she is not aware of the leaked audio conversation between her and the so called sympathizer.
She said she is in good terms with Nankhumwa and other fellow Ministers.
On his part, Nankhumwa also expressed ignorance on the audio making rounds in the social media especially Whatsaapp.
Recently Member of Parliament for Rumphi East Kamlepo Kalua made headlines when he challenged Mutharika to release the names of seven Cabinet Ministers implicated in the MK236 billion cashgate scandal.
Few days later Mutharika admitted that indeed corruption has not spared his Cabinet.
