Opposition Peoples Party (PP) spokesperson Ken Msonda has expressed interest to contest for Parliamentary seat in Rumphi East, a constituency currently being owned by Kamlepo Kalua.

Msonda made the announcement today through a statement posted on his official facebook page.

In the statement, Msonda also disclosed that he has resigned from PP and his position as the Party’s spokesperson and from frontline politics.

“I will bounce back after resting to contest in Rumphi East Constituency. In view of the above I have tendered my resignation from the Peoples Party with immediate effect. I am praying to God for guidance and wisdom; this is a very difficult, hard & heartbreaking but necessary decision as a Christian cum politician. Politics is about “strategy & taking risks; I am a risk taker.

“I have ALWAYS made my stand known that as a born again Christian – cum – politician I ONLY move “when God tells me to. I don’t follow the crowd (umba – gulu) unless that crowd is following Jesus”. Constructive criticism or encouragement is welcome. I have folded my file on “party colors politics” atleast for now till further notice, “AM A FREE POLITICIAN WITHOUT PARTY COLORS,” reads in part the statement.

Msonda’s move comes barely days after reports were all over in the social media that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has offered him K3.5 million to join the ruling Democratic Progressive Party DPP to fight Kalua.

Kalua, popularly known as the foot soldier has been all over in the social media criticizing Mutharika for shielding with seven Cabinet Ministers implicated in the MK236 billion cashgate scandal but Mutharika has denied the claims on several occasions.

Mutharika said he is not aware of the reports and he asked Kalua to within 24-hours feed him with the reports.
