Police in Mchinji have arrested a 34 year-old woman for hitting her husband on the head with a hammer and splashing acid on his face.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Mchinji Police Sub Inspector, Rome Chauluka, confirmed the development saying the suspect allegedly assaulted her husband , Brighton Sosten, 40.
“The incident occurred on September 12,2016 at around 2300 hours at Masutso Village here in Mchinji District,” he said.
According to Chauluka, they got married in 2002 and have five children. They separated after the husband accused the wife of having extra marital affairs. They were living in Mikonga 2 Village.
The police say on September 12 at around 2300 hours, the wife went after the husband and got him at Masautso Village in the district where she confiscated a bicycle and other household items. This led to a fight and the wife hit the husband with a hammer on the back and the head before pouring some acid in his eyes.
The husband was referred to Mchinji District Hospital for treatment. The medical report shows that the husband sustained a deep cut on the head, bruises on the back and eye corneal burns.
The suspect has been charged with an offence of causing grievous harm which is contrary to section 235 of the penal code.
Meanwhile Mchinji Police are appealing to all members of the public to report to police if they have failed to settle their family differences.
The wife, Tereza Njirankhondo hails from Mikonga 2 Village, Traditional Authority Zulu, Mchinji, while the husband hails from Nanthambe Village, Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu.mana
