Unconfirmed reports indicate that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has been admitted at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC in United States of America.

The development comes barely a week after Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation Francis Kasaila denied the claim that Mutharika was critically ill.

According to information hovering on the social media seen by our reporter, says that Mutharika had an operation on his shoulder.

Officials at Malawi embassy at UN in New York also confirmed Mutharika was hospitalised after attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Thursday, Press Secretary Mgeme Kalilani said Mutharika is still in USA but could not disclose exactly what he is doing.

Recently Malawians have been calling for his immediate return, saying his trip is impacting negatively to the country’s economy.
