As persistent power blackouts continue in the country, Civil Society Organization (CSOs) is planning to hold demonstrations against Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) on the matter.

One of the human right activists in the country Billy Mayaya confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, saying the demonstrations are scheduled for October 18 2016.

“ESCOM Demos planned for Lilongwe Tuesday 18th October 2016. Dress Code Black. Carry a candle and a hand held Malawian ⛳ Flag. Those who want to contribute please inbox me,” reads in part the statement.

Recently ESCOM officials attributed the challenge to low water levels at Shire River.

The officials went further by warning Malawians that the challenge will worsen, saying power production at Nkula Falls has declined by 65 percent.

Meanwhile business players and Malawians in general have expressed shock over the development with others appealing to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to consult Dr. Joyce Banda, saying during her reign there was no frequent power outages as it is now.
