Though Malawi government continue to cover the reasons that keep President Peter Mutharika longer in Us, the Rights activist Rafiq Hajat has expressed concern over the  expenditures that is now amounting to K1.3 billion .

Mutharika  left for  the US for United Nations general assembly that held from October 19 to 23 but the President not yet home.

“This is a matter of concern because of the cost, the tax payers money he is spending,” said Hajat.

Several reports especially on social media indicate Mutharika is hospitalized while the government through Information minister Maliseni Ndau thrashed this rumor off.

The minister said Mutharika is fulfilling official engagements which he failed to honour during the UNGA.

While others are saying that the President decided to go on leave secretly to avoid a backlash in view of the ever collapsing economy which IMF has predicted would collapse completely if the government does not check the ever increasing over expenditure.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Mgeme Kalirani said the president cannot always give every detail of his work schedule.

However, the stay-over is big threat to poor struggling  economy of Malawi as expenditures continue to accumulate.
