The Lilongwe High Court on 6th October 2016, sentenced Yamikani Zingalume Lashan aged 23 years from Mbuna Village in Traditional authority Masumbankhunda in Lilongwe and Gerald Basitoni aged 25 years from Nanchida village in traditional authority Chimutu in Lilongwe, to 25 years imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) each for the offence of robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the penal code.

The two convicts committed the offence on 06th April 2014 at area 23 in Lilongwe , where they assaulted to death Dinna Kadyanji using metal objects on her head and robbed off a motor vehicle registration number BS386 Toyota Voxy valued at K3,000,000.00.

The robbery was an organized crime as Lashan was working as a security guard for Kadyanji (deceased) and he connived with his accomplice to commit the crime.

The two were convicted after full trial by Lilongwe principal magistrate, Patrick Chirwa, who returned the matter to the high court for sentence, which was upon submission by the state prosecutor Levison Mangani, who submitted that the accused persons deserved a higher sentence than the jurisdiction of the magistate court.

Lashan and Batisoni are yet to answer the murder charge in relation to the same case.
