President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed Justice of Appeal, Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah, SC as new Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson.

Ansah replaces late Maxon Mbendera who collapsed and died while on duty in the capital Lilongwe last month.

The appointment of Ansah has been confirmed in a statement released few minutes ago signed by Chief Secretary to government Dr. George Mkondiwa.

According to Mkondiwa, the appointment is with effect from today, 14th October, 2016.

“Following the nomination by the Judicial Service Commission, His Excellency the President, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has appointed Justice of Appeal, Dr Jane Mayemu Ansah, SC as the Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission,” reads in part the statement.

The appointment of Ansah comes barely hours after Mutharika also appointed four High Court Judges while in unknown place.
