As the day draws near for President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to arrive home on Sunday, information sourced by FaceofMalawi indicates that it’s unlikely that the President will return home as earlier announced.
According to information sourced from Gerald Chavez Kampanikiza, President Mutharika is seriously ill and admitted to the Robert Wood Johnson University in New Jersey, where he is said to have undergone a brain surgery to remove a tumor.
Kampanikiza says Mutharika’s home coming trip is being facilitated by some DPP top officials but family members are against the move.
“He is experiencing bouts of dizziness, weakness, poor balance and body coordination and sometimes appears confused,” says Kampanikiza.
Kampanikiza also told this publication that Mutharika is also suffering speech problems and there have been five occasions of fits/seizures in the past ten days.
“Doctors are against him traveling long distance at the moment,” he said.
Meanwhile Minister of Information Malisoni Ndau has for the second time maintained that Mutharika is in good health and he will be arriving in the country on Sunday.
The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has since stepped up preparations to welcome Mutharika at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA).
