Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has called off the impending strike by both Primary and Secondary school teachers over unpaid allowances.
Teachers across the country planned to stage a sit-in on Tuesday October 18, 2016 over unsettled allowances of invigilators and Supervisors hired to administer the just released Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination amounting to MK700 million.
Speaking in an interview with the press TUM General Secretary Denis Kalekeni confirmed of the development.
Kalekeni said the demonstrations have been called off following disbursement of funds to Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) by Ministry of Finance.
He further said that MANEB has assured them that by the end of this week all invigilators and supervisors will receive their allowances.
