Police in the capital Lilongwe have arrested Human right activist Billy Mayaya for allegedly leading Malawians to demonstrate against persistent power outages in the country.
Mayaya has been arrested at area 18 roundabout in the capital Lilongwe as he was about to lead of angry Malawians against power outages.
An eyewitness told this publication that heavily armed police officers stormed the venue and apprehended Mayaya while dispersing the clouds.
According to information sourced by this publication indicates that Mayaya yesterday was advised to call off the demonstrations, saying officials have made a commitment to deal with the challenge as soon as possible.
But Mayaya remained adamant, saying he will continue with the demonstrations.
Meanwhile it is not known where Mayaya has been taken to.
