Government has trashed a statement circulating on the social media announcing cancellation of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s Press Conference scheduled for Friday at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe on the recent trip to United Nation General Assembly (UNGA), saying the statement is untrue.
On Wednesday, the social media was awashed with a statement informing Malawians that the briefing has been called off until further notice.
The statement ignited speculations among Malawians especially those on facebook with others claiming that Mutharika who is yet to appear to the public since his arrival on Sunday from United States of America might be critically ill.
Speaking in an interview with the press, Presidential Press Officer Mgeme Kalilani said the briefing is on and urged all reporters assigned to cover the event to be punctual.
“Mutharika is ready to answer all questions from the media,” said Kalilani.
The press conference will start at Two O’clock in the afternoon.
Among other things, Professor Mutharika will brief the media on Malawi government’s engagements at the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and other related issues of national importance.
Mutharika’s health condition and his whereabouts after the UNGA meeting are some of the issues that will take centre stage.
