Late Gwanda Chakuamba will get a funeral with full military honours, Chief Secretary to the Government George Mkondiwa has confirmed.

A military funeral is an honour accorded to by states to deserving citizens but is however different from a state funeral.

According to a funeral programme seen by FaceofMalawi reporter, body of the late Gwanda Chakuamba will be taken from the College of Medicine in Blantyre at 12 noon on Wednesday 26 October.

Chakuamba’s body will lay in state for public viewing on Wednesday at Comesa Hall in Blantyre and burial will take place at his home village on Friday, October 28.

Meanwhile, President Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika has paid tribute to the veteran politician.

Chakuamba died on Monday after battling kidney problems at Blantyre Adventist Hospital.

Born 4 April 1934, Chakuamba hailed from the lower Shire Valley area in southern Malawi.

He served in various cabinet positions under founding President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Bakili Muluzi and briefly under Bingu wa Mutharika.
