A woman with albinism was on Monday afternoon found hanging from a roof of her house at Sinyala in Lilongwe.

Confirming the incident to the Malawi News Agency (Mana), Tuesday, Lilongwe Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kingsley Dandaula said the woman, Tiyamike Obisoni, 27, came from Kalim’mimba village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Masula.

“It is alleged that around 1 p.m. she was chatting with her friends but later told her friends that she was going home to rest.

“Later at around 4p.m. the friends decided to go and check on her, only to find her hanging from the roof of the house,” said Dandaula.

The friends reported the matter to authorities who reported to Sinyala Police Unit and officers went to the scene and took the body to Likuni Mission Hospital mortuary pending postmortem.

Police say it is a suicide but investigations are in progress to establish the motive.

Police are advising the general public to seek guidance from faith leaders, marriage counselors or the Victim Support Unit of Police to resolve pushing issues and refrain from suicide.
