Several financial aids to hunger crisis are pumping into Malawi, recently the U.S government has also donated 17- billion kwacha to Malawi for humanitarian food assistance.
US Ambassador to Malawi Virginia Palmer made the announcement in Lilongwe and said the donation is in response to the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee’s-MVAC report that 6.5 million Malawians need humanitarian food assistance.
Palmer said the funds will be channeled through the United Nations World Food Program-WFP.
According to Palmer, some of the money will be used to purchase ready-to-use therapeutic food for HIV patients currently being treated with Anti-Retroviral Therapy-ART.
Malawi is expressing hunger as maize price is very high due to dry spell that disturbed crops production in 2014-2015 rain season.
