A taxi driver in Kasungu has cornered a suspected criminal identified as Mabvuto Zimba, 19 after suspecting him to be a thief.
Police in Kasungu have confirmed of the arrest in an interview with the press, saying the incident happened on October 31, 2016.
It is said that the suspect approached the driver in question to carry him to Gundani location.
“After closely looking at the suspect, the driver got suspicious of him. With a quick decision racing through his mind, the driver agreed and sped off. As he reached police junction, the driver of the taxi drove straight to Kasungu Police Station.
“The driver locked the doors of his car and came out to inform the officers on duty about the suspect. After enquiries, it was found out that Zimba had broken into a shop belonging to Dominic Moyo, 29 who runs a cosmetic shop within Kasungu market. Police has so far recovered some items which the owner has already identified,” reads in part police statement.
Mabvuto Zimba has been charged with Burglary and Theft contrary to Section 309 and 278 respectively of the Penal Code.
He will appear before court soon to answer the charges leveled against him.
The suspect hails from Yabwalo village, Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu district.
