Student life can throw up many challenges; a lack of money, terrible food and arduous all-night revision before exams.

But for one student, the main issue blighting her academic life was racy next door neighbours in her halls of residence; who liked nothing more than engaging in rather raucous lovemaking.

Jenna Levine, 19, is a student at Syracuse University in New York and took to Twitter to complain about her passionate fellow residents but only after posting a note through their door.

Some of us are alone!  Jenna Levine, 19, from Syracuse University in New York asked her neighbours to make their lovemaking a little less noisy

After the gentle request for less passion, she posted her note on to Twitter

She wrote the residents of Room 338 a letter about their nocturnal activities, politely asking them if they’d be able to keep the noise down in future.

She then posted a picture of the letter on Twitter, captioning it ‘college is weird’ and writing ’boutta stick this under my neighbor’s door’ on the image itself.

Her handwritten note read: ‘Hello neighbor, Please have sex a little more quietly please.

‘Some of us are trying to nap and not be reminded of how alone I am…feel free to make all the love you want.

‘Just please, make it nasty at a lower volume. Thank you!’

She then received a postcard posted under her door, accompanied by a bar of chocolate.

She posted photographs of this of Twitter as well, before tweeting a picture of the card. Amusingly, the postcard had photos of bananas on.

There goes her note!

Sincere apology: a note came back, with a bar of something sweet. The tweet has been liked 110,000 times and retweeted 45,000 times, and has struck a chord with Twitter users

It read: ‘Dearest neighbors, I’m so so incredibly sorry about that. I didn’t realise how loud I was being, and ya know, sometimes have loud sex is low key kinda hot but obviously at your cost, which I apologise so sincerely for.

‘I’m so so sorry, hope this hasn’t been occurring too often, and thanks so much for the incredible and hilarious card/.

‘I will for sure try to keep it nasty at a significantly lower level. And hey, don’t worry, you’re not alone forever.

‘The right person will come along when the time comes. I was single for 18 years.

‘Haha. Once again, I apologise so sincerely and deeply. Sorry, Room 338.’

The noisy neighbour also gifted Jenna a chocolate bar, with ‘deepest apologies. Hope you enjoy this chocolate bar!’ written on it.

The tweet has been liked 110,000 times and retweeted 45,000 times.

Twitter users loved that the story had a happy ending.

Other took the tweet as inspiration for similar situation of their own. @RushOfStories tweeted: ‘I’m gonna do this when our downstairs neighbour has loud sex again’. Daily-mail
