Law lecturer at Chancellor College Edge Kanyongolo has advised People’s Land Organization (PLO) leader Vincent Wandale to tread carefully on his plan to seek International Criminal Court (ICC) intervention over his recent conviction.
Blantyre Senior resident magistrate Thokozani Soko convicted Wandale on three accounts of conspiracy to commit misdemeanor, unauthorized use of land and criminal trespass.
But the Supreme leader told journalists outside the court after the ruling that he will appeal and take case further to ICC in Hague.
“I maintain my stand that we are a sovereign State and have freehold of all land belonging to United States of Thyolo and Mulanje.
“I don’t care whether the court recognizes it or not. We will also be taking this issue to International Criminal Justice (ICC) in Hague for it final determination on our land”, challenged Wandale.
Speaking in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), Kanyongolo said Wandale’s remarks have no merit.
Kanyongolo advised the convict to simply appeal against the ruling through local court saying going to ICC is losing direction.
On his part, Mr. Justin Dzonzi said Wandale is lacking proper understanding of law.
“The ICC only deals with war crimes and crimes against humanity so I’m not sure that in this case they have sufficient facts to proof of war crime or crimes against humanity i would therefore suggest for him to go and appeal to the court above the court which convicted him within the local domestic judiciaries”, explained Kanyongolo.
Meanwhile Wandale is set to be sentenced to prison on November 8, 2016.
