The Blantyre Magistrate Court has given a 18 months suspended sentence to People’s Land Organisation (PLO) leader Vincent Wandale.

Wandale was convicted of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor, unauthorized use of land and criminal trespass last week by senior resident magistrate Thokozani Soko.

In his ruling, Magistrate Soko has ordered Wandale to a surety of MK 100, 000 and not commits any crime in the said 18 months.

Wandale was arrested two months ago for allegedly mobilizing people in Thyolo and Mulanje to grab land from tea estate owners, claiming that the land was acquired dubiously.

After his conviction, Wandale vowed to take the issue to International Criminal Court (ICC) but the claim was quashed by law expert at Chancellor College (CHANCO) Edge Kanyongolo.

Meanwhile it is not known if Wandale will go on with his earlier plan to take the issue to ICC.
