President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has congratulated President-elect of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump, following his victory in Tuesday’s election.
Donald Trump has clobbered his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the race to the White House.
The business mogul garnered more than 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency after the polls closed on Tuesday.
Writing on his official facebook page, Mutharika said: “As a model of democracy to the whole world, the US sets the pace on how democratic values are nurtured to achieve meaningful and inclusive development across the board.
“We learn from this election of our own obligations, as citizens, to play a crucial role in deciding who should be given the mantle to govern our affairs.”
He added: “We remain committed to continued good relations with the United States in all areas of human development.”
Trump replaced Barack Obama whose term of office expires next month December.
