Mr Caravella has asked the justice should be landed to the people responsible for a death of his friend, Freind, according to him the government of Malawi is silent on the matter.
Here is a full statement written by Caravella on Facebook;
“To whom it may concern,
I was shocked and saddened to learn that my dear friend Major Geoff Freind, an Australian national and Salvation Army Major, was assaulted in Malawi last month. He was travelling in that country to give lectures. He subsequently died on 21 September 2016 from the injuries received during the assault.
It was reported in the Australian media that after the assault in Malawi, Mr Freind was transported to Johannesburg for medical treatment, but died there.
Mr Freind was a very close friend of mine. I have known him for 15 years. I still cannot come to terms with the reality of his death.
There has been no detail reported in the media as to the circumstances of his assault, who the perpetrators are, what their motive was, and what action has been taken by the Malawi law enforcement authorities to prosecute and punish the person(s) responsible.
Are you able to shed any light on these matters please? i would like assurance that the person or persons responsible for this senseless murder face justice and that Mr Freind’s killing is not ignored.
You may reply to me at Tony.caravella@icloud.com
Thank you,
Tony Caravella.”
Mr Freind, 60, was a long-serving Salvation Army Major based in the Perth suburb of Morley.
He was on leave and taking a five-week solo-preaching tour in Malawi in eastern Africa when he was attacked while walking from his hotel to nearby shops in Limbe, Blantyre.
Mr Freind was put in an induced coma at a Johannesburg hospital, but died on the following day
