Students from Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi (Unima) have pulled out of Wednesday national wide demonstrations.
Last week Polytechnic Students Union (PSU) and Mzuzu University Students Representative Council (Musrec) organized a joint press briefing in the capital Lilongwe to map the way forward over the closure of the two institutions.
The two grouping came up with plans for the demonstrations after the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MoEST) refused to grant them an audience.
Student Union leaders also called for the immediate resignation of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as Chancellor of the public institution, accusing him “lack of political will and political leadership in dealing with the current academic crisis by his regime.”
PSU General Secretary Chifundo Nkhata has confirmed of the development in an interview with Nation Newspaper.
Chifundo said the students have pulled out of the demonstration after an advice from their lawyer.
Meanwhile students from Mzuni have maintained their stand of going on with the demonstrations across the country.
