Three Malawi Congress Party (MCP) top official accused of treason have express their anger following the extension of bail to 31 January 2017.

In February this year, Police in the capital Lilongwe arrested MCP Spokesperson Jessie Kabwila, Ulemu Msungama and Peter Chankhwantha on allegations that they were plotting to take over President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s reign through WatsAPP conversation.

Since then the three have been reporting for a Police bail at area 30 Police headquarters and on Monday three did the same where their bail was extended further.

Speaking after bail extension, lawyer for the three Gustav Kaliwo expressed shock over the development, saying his clients are not amused with the move.

“Really this is all frustrating. It is one year now with the process which started with a lot of zeal and people were really keen of seeing justice done in this matter but the police keep on extending it,” he said.

He said the State should drop the case and set his clients free because there is no genuine case.
