Leader for Concerned citizen pushing for the immediate arrest and extradition of Rwandan genocide convict Vincent Murekezi will today meet Parliamentary Committee on Security, Immigration and Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPS) to map the way forward on the matter.
The meeting follows the expiry of the 48 hours ultimatum the grouping gave government through a petition presented to Parliament on Monday to extradite the said convict.
Concerned Citizen Leader Phillip Kamangira confirmed of the meeting in an interview with the press on Tuesday, saying the meeting will also involve Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Grace Obama Chiumia.
Kamangira said the grouping will do whatever it can for the government to extradite Murekezi, saying he is a threat to the country’s security.
Among other things, the grouping wants government withdraw the two passports in the custody of the convict, an apology from Minister of Home Affairs for defending the suspect, extradite the suspect and how the convict acquired the Malawians passport.
National Prosecution Authority in Rwanda confirmed two week ago that the suspect is really a genocide convict having duly tried by the country’s courts on crimes against humanity following the country’s brutal and protracted 1994 genocide which saw about a million Tutsi and moderate Hutu’s being butchered.
