Reports reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that Police in the capital Lilongwe have arrested Rwandan most wanted genocide convict Vincent Murekezi who was illegally being hosted in the country.

Murekezi’s arrest comes barely a day after Parliamentary Committee on Security convened a meeting with Immigration officials and Inspector General of Malawi Police Service (MPS) and leader of concerned citizen held in the capital Lilongwe on the matter.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Principal Secretary Dalitso Kabambe confirmed of the arrest with one of the popular online publications in the country Nyasatimes.

According to Kabambe, Murekezi is currently being kept at Area 30 police headquarters waiting for a directive from government.

Murekezi is alleged to have participated in the 1994 genocide where over 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by Hutu militias in the 100-day slaughter.
