Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has fined Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) money amounting to MK930, 000 for airing remarks uttered by opposition People’s Party (PP) third Vice President for the North Kamlepo Kalua.
Kalua who is also Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament vice-chairperson alleged that that the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) wants to start shedding blood, purportedly, of people deemed to be attacking or opposing government.
He added that DPP regime killed student Robert Chasowa, United Democratic Front (UDF) regime killed musician Evison Matafale and Fanikiso Phiri, another student.
The remarks angered MACRA Director General Godfrey Itaye who later summoned the radio station for a hearing.
After the meeting, MACRA found the radio station guilty of breaching the broadcasting license act hence the fine.
Meanwhile Malawians have accused MACRA of being used by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) regime under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
