A form one student from Mbapapi Private Secondary School in Kasungu is battling for his life at Kamuzu Central Hospital in the capital Lilongwe after being shot in the stomach by unknown police officer.

The student identified as Humphreys Jere Junior was shot on the night of November 25 2016.

According to information at hand, students from the school went on rampage protesting against the decision by school management to give them cabbage for supper.

Speaking in an interview while in deep pain, Jere said he was hiding by the corner and he felt something piercing into his stomach after another gunshot was heard.

“I immediately ran to the police officer who fired the bullet and told him what he had done. He took me to his fellow cops where he confessed to have shot me,” the boy said.

The suspected police officer is from Chatoloma Police in Kasungu district.

Meanwhile Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has launched an investigation on the matter.
