Member of Parliament for Nsanje South West, JoshepChidanti Malunga has withdrawn his membership from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), faceofMalawi can reveal.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Chidanti said he has quitted from the ruling DPP and gone back to Independent side following failure by the DPP’s administration in fulfilling its promises of assisting the people of his constituency.

“I was elected as an independent MP and then joined DPP. Now am back to being independent,” he said.

Malunga who is also Chairperson for Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture has however trashed claims by DPP’s spokesperson Francis Kasaila that he joined DPP because of personal interests which have not been fulfilled.

Chidanti has been in the forefront in pushing for investigations in the Zambia maize deal involving Agriculture Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) Chief Executive Officer Foster Mulumbe and Minister of Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda.
