The High Court in Lilongwe is on Monday next week expected to start hearing a case involving former Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commander Henry Odillo.

Odillo and five other suspects are to answer charge of misappropriating public money from 2012 up to 2013 during the reign of self-exiled Malawi leader Joyce Banda.

Judicial Spokesperson Mlenga Mvula confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

“I can confirm that Odillo’s case will resume on Monday next week,” said Mvula.

When asked as to whether the Judiciary is having enough personnel to handle the case of Odillo and at the same time handling the case involving former Budget Director Paul Mphwiyo, Mvula said the general public should not be worried of that.

Odillo and his former deputy, Lt Col Clement Kafuwa, are accused of arranging a contract to supply military equipment to Thuso Investments, which the State claims were not delivered.

ACB also arrested a former MDF Lieutenant Colonel Nelson Kauwa whose company, Thuso Investments Group, was linked to contracts for the disputed payments at MDF.

Other accomplices are Ganizani Kumchombo and former Accountant General David Kandoje.
