As heavy rains continue to wreak havoc across the country, two people have died in Mwanza after the vehicles they were travelling in got washed away by heavy floods following a heavy downpour that hit the district on Thursday.

Mwanza Police spokesperson Edwin Kaunda confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the privately owned radio-Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS), saying the incident happened at Mwanza bridge.

According to Kaunda, the rains started at 6pm and at around 9pm they received a call from well-wishers that two vehicles have been washed away at Mwanza Bridge.

“We rushed to the scene where we found one vehicle which was trapped by trees near the bridge. The driver got out without difficulties and told us he was travelling alone.

“However, we believe that the second vehicle, apart from carrying the two people whose dead bodies have been recovered, had other passengers on board. Officers are still on the ground conducting a search of the vehicle and the suspected passengers and the driver,” said Kaunda.

Meanwhile Police are yet to come up with identifies of the two dead bodies (Man and Woman).
