United Democratic Front (UDF) has trashed calls by the Party’s Member of Parliament for Balaka North Lucius Banda for the Party to end its marriage with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), saying the partnership was not meant to benefit anyone.
Earlier this week, Banda asked the Party end its marriage with the ruling DPP, saying the parternership is only benefiting Atupele Muluzi who is a Cabinet Minister.
“I have not seen any significant benefit of the partnership, apart from a single cabinet position and two ambassadorial posts. But on the ground, there is totally nothing to show.
“It’s the high time we should start repositioning ourselves. Let’s leave other people’s business and start minding our own.” said Banda.
But reacting to the call, Ndanga told one of the privately owned radio-MIJ Fm on Thursday that the DPP-UDF partnership was not meant to benefit an individual like Lucius Banda but Malawians.
“If a UDF leader or member performs well in a cabinet post or any other post given in a DPP led government, Malawians should be proud. And these Malawians are scattered in various political parties that are in this country.
“Benefiting from politics should be something that we should be considering doing away with as a nation. Real benefit from politics should be in form of good public service delivery,” said Ndanga.
When asked as to whether the Party is dying considering the fact that the Party has lost its voice in the national Assembly and at the sametime the party is not holding its own meeting to revamp itself, Ndanga said the sentiments are not true.
He said the Party takes part in a number of activities in the August House.
“We sometimes question the DPP led government in Parliament when it comes to developmental activities like other opposition Political parties in the country,” said Ndanga.
Meanwhile analysts have questioned the UDF party President Atupele Muluzi to review his partnership with DPP, saying the Party is now a sinking ship.
