Suspended Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda has not availed himself this morning to the ongoing maize inquiry at Parliament in Lilongwe.

Chaponda was expected to appear before the joint commission this morning to explain his involvement in the maize deal according to Public Accounts Committee chairperson Kamlepo Kalua.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Kalua expressed his disappointment over Chaponda’s conduct, saying the committee will use other means provide in the Standing orders of the National Assembly of summoning the Minister.

Chaponda arrived in the country Wednesday on through Chileka International Airport from Germany where he went to attend official duties despite court restraining him from executing his duties as a Minister.

His trip attracted criticisms from all corners with Civil Society Organization (CSOs) storming the German Embassy asking them to revoke his visa.
