Information reaching FaceofMalawi indicates that 13 teachers in the southern district of Chikwawa have been fired for absenteeism.
District Education Manager for Chikhwawa Chrissie Chimsale confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Monday.
Chimsale said this has been done to allow sanity to prevail in the education sector which is currently facing a number of challenges.
“Victims were learners, their right to education was infringed upon and we could not allow this any longer,” said Chimsale.
Chimsale said it was disappointing that most of the teachers who abscond from work are from Chikhwawa who were supposed to be exemplary in giving education to their kinsmen.
