The State through Attorney Kalekeni Kaphale has appealed against the Mzuzu High Court ruling extending an injunction which some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) obtained restraining Agriculture and Water Development Minister against George Chaponda from executing his duties until a probe into the Zambia maize to Supreme Court.

On Tuesday Judge John Chirwa refused to vacate the injunction against Dr. Chaponda, saying it was necessary that he remain suspended to allow for smooth investigations into the maize saga.

Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale has raised a number of objections to the ruling, including that only the appointing authority, the president, has powers to suspend or fire a minister.

Kaphale also accused the Mzuzu High Court Judge of committing a principal error in law.
