Opposition Peoples Party (PP) has described the arrest of its Interim President Uladi Mussa as political witch-hunt by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) aimed at silencing critics in the country.
Mussa was arrested on Monday by the police after handing himself to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
PP Interim President is being accused of abusing his office when he was Minister of Home of Affairs and Internal Security by directly being involved in issuing of passport to over 50 foreign nationals.
Speaking to the press after the arrest of Mussa, PP Secretary General Ibrahim Matola expressed shock over the matter.
Matola said instead of the ruling DPP concentrating on maize-gate scandal involving the fired Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda, the Party is busy persecuting its opponent.
“Mussa’s arrest is political aiming at diverting the people’s attention from Maize-gate scandal and other challenges rocking the country.
“DPP it’s a Party of professional thieves and crooks,” said Matola.
On her part, ACB Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala quashed the arrest of Mussa as a political matter.
Meanwhile Mussa spent a night in Police cell and today he is expected to be taken to court.
