The Police on Thursday arrested two body guards of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera over reports that they were in possession of firearms.
The two body guards were later released after no guns were found after a thorough search in their homes.
MCP Deputy Spokesperson Eisenhower Mkaka confirmed of the development in an interview with press, saying the police officers who were heavily armed invaded the house of Chakwera twice.
Mkaka described the search as political intimidation orchestrated by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
“The government is doing all it can to scare the opposition, to silence Dr Chakwera so that he stops criticizing the government,” said Mkaka.
Effort to talk to National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera proved futile.
