Former Minister of Transport and Public Works, Khumbo Chirwa has dumped the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) barely a month after being paraded at Masintha ground as DPP member.

Making the announcement on Saturday during an MCP rally, Chirwa claimed that he was cheated by some DPP that President Peter Mutharika wanted to meet him privately.

“I was told the President wanted to meet me in private. I did not refuse bearing in mind that I once served as a cabinet minister during his brother the late Bingu wa Mutharika’s administration. But I was shocked to hear my name on podium that I have joined DPP,” Chirwa was quoted as saying.

Chirwa said his speech at the podium was in “parables” because he was tricked.
