Police in Blantyre have arrested an Indian woman identified as Amas Abbas for stealing goods from Shoprite supermarket valued at K89 thousand.
According to an eyewitness who rushed to the scene, Abbas was spotted on the CCTV trying to escape from Shoprite with the goods and she was apprehended by Group 4 security staff.
The woman was later taken to a room for questioning.
Shoprite officials in Blantyre confirmed the incident in an interview with the press.
“Indeed an Indian woman was seen shoplifting but as she headed for the exit without paying, she was tackled by security staff,” said the shop manager.
Meanwhile the suspect who was accompanied her husband and son is currently being kept at Kanjeza Police.
