The attitudes you exhibit in your relationship is what will make it last long or die a premature death.

Many relationships tend to suffer, not because of a lack of love, but because of the attitude the partners in the relationship tend to exhibit.

1.CONTEMPT

Contempt is deadly and according to marriage researcher John Gottman, it’s a prime sign of marriage problems to come.

Contempt is evident when you disregard your partner, when you are nonchalant, when you have a lack of respect for your partner and when you abuse or despise your partner. When contempt starts to rear its ugly head in a relationship/marriage, that relationship is bound to suffer.

2. SELFISHNESS

This is one hefty problem many have in their lives — self-centredness, and they bring this deadly attitude into their relationships, hoping it’ll be okay. But it can never be; your relationship will never stand the test of time when you are a selfish partner.

3. LACK OF EMPATHY

Being able to put yourself in your partner’s shoe is a strength that your relationship should have. When you find it difficult to do this, you’d always make terrible mistakes in your thinking, decisions and actions.

4. INSECURITY

Insecurity will create an atmosphere of suffocation, jealousy, distrust and even hatred in your relationship. When you don’t feel secure about yourself, your relationship might suffer, as your partner’s feelings for you could even dwindle.

5. NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTION

Blaming your partner for your own mistakes and being unable to take responsibility for your actions is a terrible attitude you shouldn’t bring to your relationship. An attitude like this will lead to frequent misunderstanding and arguments.

Your attitude defines who you are, and the attitude you bring to your relationship will define how far your relationship will go.
