President Peter Mutharika Thursday led thousands of people in paying his last respects to his niece, Mrs. Lexa Maness Kajawo who died on Tuesday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after suffering from High blood pressure.

The burial ceremony took place at Dzungu Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Bvumbwe in Thyolo.

Also in attendance were the Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, Cabinet Ministers, government officials, Paramount Chief Ngolongoliwa, TA’s Lukwa, Tsabango, party officials and the business fraternity among others.

In his Eulogy, Gilbert Chilinde who represented the bereaved family said the passing on of Mrs Kajawo was a big blow to the family because she was a strong pillar to the family and a great advisor.

“We are really saddened by the death of our sister. It is a blow to us because she was our pillar whom we were all relying upon. She was a pillar who was supporting all of us. Apart from being a pillar, she was an advisor and a best counselor that we ever had. We will all miss her,” he said.

Chilinde commended the president and the entire gathering for supporting the family during the trying moment they are passing through.

Inkosi Bvumbwe said Malawi has lost an influential person who had a motherly heart.

“We are all shocked that our dear mother is gone. She was always there whenever we needed her support. May her soul rest in peace,” he said.
Born in 1949, late Mrs Kajawo is survived by five children and seven grand children.
