Mwachitapa village in Nkhotakota went into a complete bedlam as one elephant believed to have escaped from Nkhotakota game reserve was spotted wandering in a bush near the area.

When the police and game rangers received the news, they rushed to the scene but their efforts yielded nothing since the area is too bushy, According to Nkhotakota police spokesperson, Williams Kaponda.

“However, the operation is continuing and today a helicopter is expected to be used for easy tracing and scaring of the animal¸” said Kaponda.

Mwachitapa village is along the Lake Malawi few kilometers from Benga trading centre.
