Police in Kasungu yesterday arrested Edwin Chaseta, a teacher at Mkanakhothi Primary School for allegedly murdering a son of a head teacher of the same school.
The incident occurred on March 26, 2017 at around 1600 hours at Mkanakhothi Trading Centre in the district.
According to Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer Edna Mzingwitsa, the suspect was drinking beer together with his fellow teachers at a bar where the deceased, William Mwandira, 21, also joined them however the suspect was annoyed with his presence and kicked out the deceased’s bottle of beer.
“The suspect did this because he is allegedly not in good relation with the deceased father, the head teacher.
“A quarrel ensued between the two but it was settled by some teachers who were in the bar,” he said.
According to Mnzingwitsa the suspect left the bar and went home where he took a knife and hid in the bush along the road to the deceased’s house.
The deceased is said to have left the drinking place with another teacher, Mike Kanyika, going to their respective homes.
“As they were on their way home, the suspect emerged from the bush and stabbed the deceased two times in the stomach and run away,”
However, Kanyika followed him and caught the suspect and the deceased was taken to Kawiya Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The suspect has been charged with murder as contrary to section 209 of the penal code.
The suspect hails from Mtawa village, TA Mwansambo in Nkhotakota district while the deceased hailed from Kanyakatika Village, TA Chulu in the same district .
