Mponela police spokesperson,Kondwani Kandiado has confirmed the arrest of two men who murdered a victim identified as Kapiza Shawa aged 62 over K1500.

Two suspects who happen to be from the same village have been identified as Alfred Banda 34 and Stanley Kaudza 30 both from Chilinkholi village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhadza in Dowa district.

The story says that the first suspect, Alfred Banda wanted a carving tree to be used on his canoe and so he hired the deceased (Kapiza Shawa) to find him the said tree.

“On March 14, 2017, Shawa went to Banda`s house where he wanted to collect his money amounting to K1500,” police spokesperson Kandiado said.

“In the process of negotiating, a fight erupted and the suspect took an axe and later hacked him in the head,” Kandiado added.

Following a huge cut in the head caused by the axe, Shawa bled and died on the spot.

Banda, with the help of his friend Stanley Kaudza took the deceased, tied him with 8 Kg`s of metal bar before dumping him in Bua river together with his bicycle.

His body was discovered two days later when some fishermen spotted it floating on the river.

Postmortem results revealed that the man died due to severe head injuries.

The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of murder.
