Limbe police deputy public relations Pedzesai Zembeneko has confirmed the arrest of four suspects who stole K9 million and other items from a shop in Limbe.
Zembeneko has identified the four suspects as Chifundo Somanje (31), Gift Sonke (36), Masauko Amoni and Lovemore Yasini both aged 34.
Three of the suspects were already known by the police since they have previously been arrested after committing another crime of this kind.
Zembeneko disclosed that the suspects were using a motor vehicle (Suzuki) with the registration number DZ 592.
“The gang violently robbed 9 million kwacha cash and assorted items worth 8 million kwacha at Mwandama shop situated near Limbe hardware,” said Zembeneko.
He continued to say that one of the suspects, Lovemore Yasini is already answering the charges of murder and was on court bail during the time he committed this crime.
The same applies to Chifundo Somanje who was also on court bail after he committed a crime when he broke into a building.
While Gift Somanje is an ex-convict who was released last month upon completion of a grievous harm sentence.
Somanje hails from Kameza village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre, Sonke comes from Chithuli village, Traditional Authority Mthiramanja in Mulanje while Lovemore Yasini village Chemusa, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre .
Police investigations are underway to recover the stolen items.
